The evil eye is believed to occur when a person looks at someone or something with envy, jealousy, or excessive admiration, which may lead to harm or misfortune. In Islam and many cultures, it is understood that negative energy from such looks can affect health, happiness, or success. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) confirmed the reality of the evil eye, teaching Muslims to be cautious and seek protection through prayers.

One of the main causes of the evil eye is envy—when people feel jealous of another person’s beauty, wealth, success, or blessings. Sometimes it is intentional, but it can also happen unintentionally when admiration is expressed without remembering Allah by saying Masha’Allah (as Allah has willed). This forgetfulness can open the door to harm.
Another cause of the evil eye comes from showing off or excessive exposure & umrah packages of one’s blessings. Constantly displaying wealth, achievements, or personal success may attract envious glances from others. This is why Islam encourages modesty, humility, and gratitude & to Allah, while also advising believers to acknowledge His will when admiring others, so that jealousy does not turn into harm.
